Well, vacation was about as miserable as it could be. My sisters decided to pick on me for most of it and ruined the whole resting thing it was supposed to be. Believe me, I won't be going on family vacations for a long, long time...possibly never.
The only slightly funny thing that happened was, of course, Spirit. We were playing Pit, which for those who don't know is a stock market game where you try to get all of the Corn, Wheat, Barley, Rye, or Oats. You trade the cards you don't want and get the ones you do, and when you have the 9 of one set you ring the bell and end trading. Trading involves a good bit of yelling because you're trying to make your voice heard over four others.
Well, Spritey was on her chain, which allowed her to go all the way from basically one end of the campsite to the other. The first round she walked all the way over to one end, as far away as she could get from us that way. Then the second round she came back our way and tried to go as far the other way as she could.
By the third round, Spritey had gotten herself mired in the bushes by the front end of the campsite, and she was trying to go further away.
So I went over there to get her out of trouble because she looked stuck, and when I went to pick her up, she walked away from me a little bit like she was afraid.
OK, Spritey has always been a little weird. Whatever. She looked a bit stressed, so I tried to wrap her in a hug.
And found our little dog was shaking from terror.
Wouldn't you know, a shouting card game set her off. We waited a few minutes while she calmed down, then played one more round and found she headed right back to the bushes when let go.
That was it. No more Pit with Spirit around. It took forever for her to start feeling more calm and less uptight.
Spirit's had a bad day today, too. So far...
She's been bathed
Had her nails clipped
Had her ears cleaned
Been brushed
Had tick medication put on her back
I would include the heartworm medication, but she likes that. Mum wanted to wash her one more time before it gets cold because Spritey is older, doesn't handle cold well, and it takes an eternity for her to dry out after a bath.
I did get some writing done while away (not enough.) I'll hopefully be typing it up soon.
Talk to you all soon,
Bec
