Positive Things

Packers are 9-0; absolutely shredded the poor Viqueens last night. Shame. They didn't even really put up a fight.

Chris Thile was funny, engaging, and brilliant and while I wish that the concert could have been a bit longer, his fingers and elbow probably didn't.

Working this morning; some stuff is getting done.

Here's my little complaint about the possible Doctor Who movie. Yates is making drastic mistakes here already, and he JUST announced he's interested:

1. No BBC support, so far as anyone knows.

2. No Tennant or Smith thus far.

3. Making a separate story from the current stuff going on- not so much a mistake if he deals with subjects that have never been touched on-early life of the Doctor before he leaves Gallifrey or the Time War. Otherwise the whole stupid thing is going to be wibbley.

4. Bringing in the AMERICAN Hollywood execs. Big mistake. British execs know their Who, and they know where they should not tread (I'm thinking burly-chested shirtless Doctor with a machine gun, shooting at the Daleks in the style of Rambo- shudder, shudder). One mistake that was made with the 1996 movie was people who thought they knew our Doctor and wound up making a bit of a farce out of him.

Suggestions for Yates:

1. Get Peter Jackson, Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, Toby Whithouse, Neil Gaiman, Russell T. Davies, even a couple of old Doctors themselves in on the game. These people are the best thing we have for experts. You want a quality script? Get someone who KNOWS the material back, front, and time-locked.

2. Make your separate story fit in-universe. Blend it in.

3. If you're not going to conquer the Time War or the early Doctor, then cast Smith or Tennant or whoever 12 is going to be, because I guarantee that'll get a lot of us watching (and Tennant and Smith have their Doctors and won't go into it without a decent script.)

4. Get the BBC behind it so you can use all the characters effectively.

This could be a decent movie if he doesn't fly in the face of everything that makes Who work. If he screws it up, it could turn people off of the show, and we do not need another 1989.

A new story is fine. However, retooling so that we all curse your name till the end of time and beyond? Not so good.

Ta,
Bec
