Poo Gets Brushed and Whisper Gets Special Food

Spritey's losing her winter undercoat. This means that someone, once a day, has to brush her down from neck to tail to get the loose fur up and out. It has to be itchy and hot to have a whole layer of your fur coming out, so going through her fur with a brush seems to make her a little more comfortable.

But she HATES being brushed with a passion. The mere mention of brush can send her scurrying to her kennel to hide. When someone brushes her, she tends to get very cuddly (and Spritey DOES NOT cuddle) and tries to sit with the side you're trying to brush slumped against you. Today I was trying to push her away a little bit so that I could brush her hip, and she was pushing back trying to get back onto my lap to stop me. I had to hold her with one hand so I could use the brush with the other. When I would let go for a second, she'd zip into my lap like a little magnet.

She also whines under her breath, wriggles, begs with her eyes, and when it gets too bad, she farts. And today it was all of those because I had to do both of her hips-her fur comes off there in clumps that we can pull out by hand. She doesn't like us chasing her around to yank them out when we spot them. So it's better for everyone involved if I go through and pull the clumps from underneath before they have a chance to work their way to the surface of her overcoat. It doesn't hurt her-I'm just pulling the already loose chunks out.

Despite her resistance, we did get it done. And the pile of loose fur she produced today was half the size of yesterday's-there is progress being made. If I don't have to clean her loose fur off of the furniture, the carpet, out of the kitchen, the hallway, or pick it out of food around here, it's a plus.

And the other dog has been sick, so she's getting rice and hamburger for meals. Her stomach has taken a dislike to her regular dog food and we don't know why. She rejected her kibbles twice yesterday by upchucking them onto the carpet. Having put two and two together, I figured her tum's not liking the regular stuff anymore. Rice and hamburger it is. Not too much work-just instant rice and a bit of chopped burger to give it flavor because she won't eat the rice plain.

Sometimes these two are a lot of work, but I still love 'em.

Doctor Who stuff after the spoiler line.

SPOILER LINE

Okay, so Hungry Earth was a part one of a two part story.

I thought it was awesome.

The Silurians literally popped up in this episode. We saw less of Amy and more of Rory than we have before. We also saw a lot of stuff that reminded me of the beginning of "Green Death" (Third Doctor) including the camera angle that mine was shown at. Looked very, very similar, but as I remember, that didn't deal with the Silurians but a big bunch of maggots and flies.

The Doctor once again wound up in the wrong place-not in Rio, but in Wales.

Amy and Rory see future versions of themselves in 2020. Really? I don't think so!

The Doctor put the blue grass in his mouth again and I was distinctly reminded of his last incarnation who put EVERYTHING in his mouth...oh, David I miss you sometimes...

The kid obviously is significant to the Silurians and possibly to their downfall because of his dyslexia, or they wouldn't have emphasized it so damned often.

Something about bioprogramming.

The Doctor calls for silence (significant?)

Clennparii defense is the defense of oneself by saying you're the last of a species. The Doctor was more than moderately insulted when the Silurian in captivity dared to claim this defense, since at this moment he IS the last of the Time Lords.

Of the three people left standing there, who would kill the Silurian? Rory, who's lost Amy to the ground? Ambrose who's lost her husband and son (where is that kid anyway-haven't seen him since he vanished), or Tony, who's been bitten and has the venom of the Silurians running through his system and has also lost his son-in-law and grandson to the ground?

Next week deals with time in flux and not fixed points.

Next week: Cold Blood!
