Baked a loaf of bread today. I have no idea what the hell is the matter with me this week, except that in the last two days I have baked more bread dough than I have all this last year. Maybe I just need carbohydrates.
Not much else going on with me, so I'm going to wander over to the Who zone for a bit.
SPOILER LINE
First off, it was awesome this week. I have yet to figure out how awesome it was, but (pardon my Francois) that was fucking fantabulous. With a dash of awesome on top. Add maraschino cherry (must have the maraschino cherry-did you know I used to eat entire jars of those as a child? Grandma and Mom used to hide them in the fridge so that I wouldn't.)
ANYWAY...
Seeing Amy on her own was nice-a lot of Tennant's and well, since Rose was technically 9 AND 10's we'll just say it that way, a lot of the companions tended to stick like Krazyglue to the Doctor's hip until something separated them (like the companion was kidnapped or wandered off or the Doctor got distracted or...well, you get the picture.)
Amy was alone for at least 10 minutes. She made a very human mistake and tried to take the decision out of the Doctor's hands...something which he apparently DID NOT like.
And therefore, we saw 11 angry for the first time. I have actually been waiting for this since last week: the Doctor is known for having a good bit of righteous anger when he sees other creatures oppressed and suffering. Righteous anger suits this Doctor very, very well...possibly almost better than it did Tennant's. I confess myself entirely impressed. It was just the right amount of mad, too-not too much and not too little. Can't wait to see him in full-on Oncoming Storm mode, because when Tennant did it, I backed UP from the screen (and still do.) When he was mad, you didn't want to be at the other end of it.
The star whale was suffering and every human on that starship chose to ignore the problem and forget that it was even happening-even the Queen herself. The Doctor lost his temper at the humans, who were really to blame for the whole thing. He actually said THIS:
The Doctor: "Nobody talk to me. Nobody human has anything to say to me today!"
And on top of that-he didn't solve the problem AT ALL. It was Amy who ended up solving the whole issue and taking the risk necessary to rescue everyone, including the star whale.
Oh, this was such a wonderful episode, with so much going on and lots of lovely nuances and I'm going to have to watch it again tomorrow because it was just amazing. Steven Moffat, you have really outdone yourself this time. Really.
11 episodes left this series and I already don't want it to end.
(PS: Did the Doctor actually forget to tell her he was an alien? (the spaceship might have given her a frakking clue-although she didn't seem all THAT surprised. Maybe it just answers a lot of questions like, "Why is his ship bigger on the inside?" and "Why is he a blithering idiot half the time, spitting food all over the place and then coming back twelve years later, arguing about duck ponds and calling the bad aliens back just to yell at them about the Shadow Proclamation and telling them to GET BACK HERE NOW?") Did Amy NOT tell him she's supposed to be getting married? Does he probably already know? (that's a yes-he's so damned curious he probably looked up everything about her already. Nosy git.)
Ta,
Bec
